Preparing IFC Room Context

ClashWise Plan mode and room assignment use an IFC context model that is uploaded once, attached to a clash set, designated to provide rooms and levels, and aligned with the clash scene.

IFC is the semantic source in this release. A GLB can provide geometry, but it does not provide room or level identity.

Before you start

Upload the IFC

  1. Open Model library.
  2. Choose Upload model and select the IFC.
  3. Leave the page open while the direct upload completes, or resume the pending upload if prompted.
  4. Wait for geometry conversion to reach Ready. You can continue using an older active version while a replacement shows Ready · updating.
  5. Use View to inspect the generated preview. A loading state is normal while the image is prepared from the converted context bounds.

If conversion fails, use Retry. Replacing a model creates a new revision; the older spatial derivative becomes stale immediately.

Attach it to a clash set

  1. Open the clash set in the 3D viewer.
  2. Open the context models panel and choose Add / Add model context.
  3. Add the ready IFC.
  4. Tick Provides rooms and levels.
  5. Wait for Rooms ready. While processing, the attachment shows Preparing rooms…. If room extraction fails, use Retry.

Geometry stays usable even if room extraction fails, but Plan/room assignment is not ready.

Align the model

Expand the uploaded model's appearance/alignment controls in the viewer:

Uploaded models are aligned by hand and may be shared across sets. Navisworks-published context is already in the clash coordinate frame and does not expose these controls.

Room assignment occurs only for a ready, aligned spatial attachment. Changing alignment, spatial role, or source revision queues location recomputation. Verify at least one known clash centre in a known room before relying on spatial filters.

Verify Plan and assignment

  1. Choose the intended building and level.
  2. Switch from 3D to Plan.
  3. Confirm room fills/outlines, labels, grids, and clash pins align with the clipped context.
  4. Select a room and choose Review this space.
  5. Open a known clash and inspect its building, level, room/space, source, confidence, and anchor.
  6. Return to 3D and confirm the same room remains selected.

ClashWise uses the exact clash centre when available, then the saved viewpoint anchor, then a bounding-box fallback. It tests that point against room polygons and vertical ranges. It does not choose the nearest room.
