Publish & Sync FAQ

Plans and access

Q: What plan do I need to publish, update, and sync clash sets? A: A Clash Management subscription — the Pro or Business plan, or an active trial. The Starter plan covers AI clash naming in Navisworks only; it does not include publishing or syncing. You also need the Full Suite plugin edition installed.

Q: Can I publish while offline? A: No. Publishing, updating, and syncing all talk to the ClashWise cloud and need an internet connection.

Q: Who can see my published clash set? A: By default a set is private — visible only to you (None (private) in the publish window's project picker). Share it with a project at publish time, or move it into a project later on the web, and the project's members can see and work on it. You can also create share links for insights and 3D scenes from the web — see the Insights & Sharing section.

Publishing

Q: How long does publishing take? A: It depends on the number of clashes, the images and 3D captures involved, and your connection. Small sets finish in well under a minute; very large sets continue processing on the server in the background, and you'll receive an email when the set is ready.

Q: Can I publish the same clash tests more than once? A: Yes. Each publish creates a new, separate clash set — useful for comparing coordination phases or taking a snapshot before major changes. To keep working in the same set (preserving clash numbers, analysis, and shares), use Update instead.

Q: Do I have to publish every clash test in my document? A: No. Select only the tests you want. Many teams publish different tests to different sets — by discipline pair, phase, or building area — and keep some tests local-only.

Q: What are clash numbers (#1, #2, …)? A: Every clash gets a permanent number within its set when it's first published. Numbers never change across updates, so clash #57 is always clash #57 — use numbers when referring to clashes in meetings, comments, and links.

Q: Why does ClashWise ask me to group my clashes before publishing? A: Large, mostly ungrouped selections (100+ clashes, over 30% ungrouped) trigger the Group before publishing prompt. Grouping lets you triage status, priority, and owner for a whole group at once, hand a group to the responsible team, and open groups reliably in the 3D viewer. You can always click Continue without grouping.

Q: Can I rename or delete a clash set? A: Yes, on the web — open your clash sets at https://clashwise.ai/my/clash-sets. Deleting a set cannot be undone.

Updating

Q: Should I update an existing set or publish a new one after model changes? A: Update, in most cases. Updating keeps the set's clash numbers, share links, analysis, and matrix connections, and adds only what's new. Publish a new set when you deliberately want a separate snapshot.

Q: What happens to groups my team made on the web when I update? A: You choose. Keep groups created on the web (recommended) preserves web grouping wherever it differs from the model. Overwrite web groups with Navisworks groups replaces all web grouping with the model's — use with care, as web-side grouping work is lost.

Q: What happens if I re-run clash detection before updating? A: Re-running tests is the normal workflow — Update matches existing clashes by their identifier (GUID) and refreshes them, adding any new clashes. But if results are regenerated in a way that changes GUIDs (models reloaded, tests recreated), the old clashes can no longer be matched — which mainly matters for Sync. Sync your decisions back to the model before major model changes.

Syncing

Q: What exactly does Sync write into Navisworks? A: The clash's Status (all supported versions), Priority (Navisworks 2026 and later only), Assigned To contact (2025 and later), a sync comment, and web-created clash groups as native groups. It never renames clashes, adds or removes clashes, or changes test settings.

Q: Why can't I sync priorities in Navisworks 2024 or 2025? A: Those Navisworks versions don't provide a way for plugins to write a clash's priority — the capability was added in Navisworks 2026. The Sync Recommended Priority option is visible but has no effect on 2024–2025. Use Navisworks 2026 or later for priority sync.

Q: Do I need to wait for AI analysis to finish before syncing? A: No. All your clash sets are offered for sync. The default scope is Analyzed clashes only, but you can switch to All clashes (including manually edited) to sync manual web edits even without analysis.

Q: Can I undo a sync? A: Yes — the whole sync applies as one operation in Navisworks, so a single Ctrl+Z reverts everything it changed.

Q: Can several people sync the same clash set? A: Yes, anyone with access to the set can sync it into their copy of the publishing document. Within one document, the last sync wins — coordinate who syncs, and keep the web as the source of truth.

Q: Can I sync into a different Navisworks document than the one that published? A: Not reliably. Matching is by clash GUID, and a different document (or copies with reloaded models) usually won't match — those clashes are counted as skipped.

Q: Can I sync a set someone else published? A: Yes, if the set is shared with you (for example through a project) and you open the same Navisworks document they published from.
